Diageo has launched the first 700ml Johnnie Walker Black Label in 90% paper packaging, and will conduct trials in the catering industry. This paper bottle will first be available in limited quantities at the 1820 bar on Johnnie Walker Princes Street in Edinburgh, Scotland, marking the first time Diageo has launched this environmentally friendly packaging in the catering industry.
The bottle was developed by Diageo in collaboration with PA Consulting, using PulPac's dry mold fiber technology, and is about 60% lighter than traditional glass bottles. The bottle is made of 90% paper and a very thin plastic lining, which can reduce carbon emissions by about 47%. At the same time, the plastic lining is simple in design and can be recycled without disassembly. Although the bottle cap is not yet recyclable, alternatives are being developed.
Global Brand Director said: "This trial of paper bottles is an important step in our innovative packaging and reflects the brand's ambition in sustainable development." Diageo plans to continue exploring paper packaging throughout the Johnnie Walker product line to reduce carbon footprint and respond to the high-end beverage market's demand for elegant and environmentally friendly packaging.
